Purpose
BigBen is a combined lock, screensaver and reminder application.
BigBen protects your UIQ smartphone from accidental use by locking keys,
while displaying a large digital or analog clock.

Compatibility
BigBen is compatible with all smartphones running on Symbian 7.0 with UIQ 2.0 or higher.

|
Installation
Decompress the downloaded distribution package.
Refer to the readme.txt file for any instruction specific to the version downloaded.
The BigBen installation file, BigBenXXX.sis, can be installed from the PC or the phone
by the usual manners (refer to your phone's User Guide for details).

Main view
The main view displays the currently installed screensaver.
Date and seconds are always shown in this mode.
Using the menu and toolbar buttons you can activate the key lock and screensaver, furthermore set program options.
To make your phone look and sound like the famous tower clock in London,
set both the analog clock face and the hourly chime to Big Ben in Preferences.

Screensaver
A screensaver is displayed when the phone is locked.
Screensavers provide a mechanism to reduce battery consumption and protect the screen, while displaying the time.
Date and seconds are also shown while activity is detected.
Select your preferred type of screensaver in Preferences/Screen.
Available screensavers include analog and digital clocks and a blank screen.
Locking
When the phone is locked, all keys become inactive and a screensaver is displayed.
The phone can be locked by the following ways:
- Tap on the Lock toolbar button in main view.
- Press the hot key set in Preferences/Lock.
- Automatic after the time-out set in Preferences/Lock.
- By closing the flip if the phone was previously unlocked by opening the flip.
Unlocking
The phone can be unlocked by the following ways:
- Tilt (push) the jog dial away or towards for displaying the Unlock menu (see below).
- Press the [ OK ], then the [ * ] key in flip closed mode.
- Open the flip.
Unlock menu
Initiating unlock by the jog dial displays the Unlock menu with the following selections:
- Unlock: Select to unlock the phone.
- Reminders off/on: Temporarily disable all reminders, or re-enable them.
- Menu off: Disable the unlock menu until the phone is locked next time.

Reminders
The screensaver displays indicators for unattended events,
like phone call ("C" letter) or unread SMS ("S" letter).
Unlock the phone to view the missed events.
Reminders can be configured in Preferences/Alert, and toggled in the Unlock menu.

Security
When keys are pressed in locked state, by default BigBen displays informative messages on how to unlock the phone.
You can however set your own custom message in Preferences/Lock/Unlock,
to prevent people picking up your phone from easy unlocking.
Maximum security can be achieved by specifying an empty custom message,
and by switching off the menu temporarily using the Unlock menu's Menu off option.
In this case an intruder (including yourself!) will not receive any help on how to get into the phone.
Use this option with caution and only when you are familiar with the unlocking methods.

Preferences - Screen
Customize the appearance of the screensaver.
- Screensaver: Choose the type of screensaver to display when the phone is locked.
- Analog clock face: Select a face for the analog clock.
This option is only available if you selected analog clock as the screensaver type.
- Custom text: Enter text you wish to appear in the screensaver's top line.

Preferences - Lock
Use the provided settings to customize locking your phone.
- Hot key: Select the key that you want to use to immediately lock the phone.
- Detect PC connect: Set the option if you want to prevent autolocking when your phone is connected to a PC.
- Flip mode: Select the flip mode whose auto-lock time you want to change.
This option is available only on SonyEricsson phones.
- Auto-lock timeout: Set the timeout for automatically turning on the key lock in the selected flip mode.
If you select None, no automatic lock will occur.
In this case the phone can still be locked by hot key or from the BigBen main view.

Preferences - Flip actions
Use the provided settings to set what actions to perform when opening and closing the flip.
These options are available only on SonyEricsson phones.
- Lock on flip close: Select the condition when you want your phone to be locked as a response to closing the flip.
- Unlock on flip open: Set the option if you want your phone to be unlocked when you open the flip.

Preferences - Unlock options
Use the provided settings to customize unlocking your phone.
- Unlock menu: Set the option if you want to display the Unlock menu whenever unlocking the phone is initiated.
- Custom message: Set the option if you want to replace unlock messages with your own text.
- Message text: Enter the text you want to appear when keys are pressed in locked state.
Your text will only be displayed if the Custom message option is set.

Preferences - Alert
Customize audible alerts played by BigBen.
- Reminder sound: Select the alert sound to be played as a reminder when there is a missed event,
like a call or an unread SMS.
- Sound interval (min): Set how frequently the above reminder sound should be played.
Values are given in minutes.
- Hourly chime: Select a sound to play every hour.
The "BigBen" option plays the chime of the Palace of Westminster's tower clock.
- Vibration: Check the option to vibrate on executing a reminder.
This option is available only on SonyEricsson phones.

Preferences - Events
Select the events for which you want to execute a reminder.
- Missed call: Execute reminder when an incoming call was not answered.
- Unread SMS: Execute reminder if there is an unread SMS.

Preferences - Sound times
Use the provided settings to determine when the reminder sounds and the hourly chime are active.
- Day: Select the day or the group of days for which you want to change active sound times.
- Start time: Set the earliest time when you want the sounds to be active.
- End time: Set the latest time when you want the sounds to be active.
- Inactive: Check the option if you want sounds to be inactive for the selected day(s).

Preferences - Other
Use the provided settings to customize miscellaneous program options.
- Autostart: Check the option if you want BigBen to launch automatically whenever you start up your handset.

Known issues
MP3 files can not be played on the P800 as chime and reminder sounds.
Select the same sound file types that can be used as ringtones on the P800.
