Answers

General

Q: Why do I need Flip Calculator?
A: Flip Calculator lets you use your smartphone as a traditional calculator. In flip closed mode, you can perform math calculations by the usual way - keypresses.

Q: How does Flip Calculator differ from similar programs?
A: Most smartphone calculators (including the standard Calculator application) work in flip open mode only. Flip Calculator operates in flip closed mode, and has all features of a basic calculator, without the (generally undesired) complexity of advanced scientific calculators.

Q: Which phones is Flip Calculator compatible with?
A: Flip Calculator can be installed on any UIQ smartphone, but naturally is fully functional only on those that have a hardware or virtual flip keypad. Fully compatible devices include the SonyEricsson P910, P900 and P800 smartphones.

Calculation

Q: How can I access math functions?
A: Math functions are accessed by holding down a key for about a third second ("long keypress"). Long keypress functions are indicated on the key map by green color. While pressing a key, yellow color on the keymap indicates whether the short or the long keypress function will be activated (short keypresses are for digits).

Q: How to correct the wrong number?
A: Press the "Back" key, indicated by <=, to erase the last entered digit. Press the "Clear" (C) key to reset the current number to zero and cancel any operation. These functions are in the middle of the uppermost row of keys.

Q: How do I enter a decimal dot?
A: Press the lower left key on the keypad, marked as * . on the key map.

Q: How do I enter a negative number?
A: To switch the sign of the number being entered, hold down the key marked as 3 ± on the keymap, in the rightmost column of keys on the keypad.

Q: How can I save a number?
A: Invoke the Memory menu by pressing the key labeled as # M on the key map (the lower right key on the keypad). From the menu, select M Store to save the currently displayed memory permanently. You can later load the same number using the M Restore menu item.

Q: Can I put the result of calculation to another application?
A: Yes, using the Memory menu. Select the Copy menu item to place the current number to the clipboard, and then paste it into another application.

Q: Why a red zero is shown?
A: An error sign (E letter in the left hand side of the display panel) indicates that the last math operation ended up in an error condition. When an error occurs, the number display changes to zero in the same color as the error indicator (red by default). Most frequent errors include dividing by zero, square-rooting a negative number, or overflowing the display width.

Q: What are the accuracy and limits of Flip Calculator?
A: Flip Calculator uses the high precision math functions of the Symbian operating system. The maximum number of digits is 12, including 11 decimal places (the same as in the built-in Calculator application).

Configuration

Q: Can the display colors be changed?
A: Yes. Launch Flip Calculator in flip open mode to access the Preferences dialog, then in the Display tab select the Display item you want to change, finally select an Item color for it. You can change the color for all components in the display panel.

Q: Why does this calculator not operate with the flip open?
A: There are numerous calculator applications that operate in flip open mode. Flip Calculator is intended to complement those with flip closed functionality. In the Preferences/Other tab you can set to launch the standard Calculator application whenever you open the flip with Flip Calculator in the foreground.
