General
Q: Why do I need Flip Extender?
A: Flip Extender lets you use all your programs with the flip closed.
This comes handy when you don't want to open the flip for whatever reason,
but at the same time want to have full access to all programs, like browsing the net, and so on.
With Flip Extender you can fully utilize your phone in a compact and private fashion.
You are not restricted any more to those few programs that support flip closed mode.
Depending on your conditions and habits, Flip Extender can dramatically increase the usability of your P-series phone.
Q: Which phones is Flip Extender compatible with?
A: Flip Extender can be installed and executed on UIQ smartphones that have a hardware flip keypad.
These include the SonyEricsson P-series phones (P910, P900 and P800).
Q: Can Flip Extender be started automatically?
A: If you want Flip Extender running whenever you start your phone, you need an autostart manager program,
like the free System Manager (SMan) or for advanced options our BootMan application.
Virtual flip use
Q: How do I start using Flip Extender?
A: Close the flip and hold down the Virtual Flip (VF) hotkey for about one second.
The flip open view comes up with the default application in foreground.
The default VF hotkey is the Back key on the flip keypad.
Q: How do I return from VF open mode?
A: To return to flip closed mode, hold down the VF hotkey or press the Control key and select Close virtual flip from the menu.
To return to true flip open mode, just lift the flip keypad.
Q: Is there a way to see the bottom part of the screen?
A: Yes. Just press the Scroll key (Back by default) to look "under the flip".
Q: Can't I use the stylus in VF open mode?
A: Touch screen is disabled by default in VF open mode.
You can permanently enable the touch screen on the true flip open main screen of Flip Extender,
or temporarily en/disable it from the Control menu.
Q: How can I change the hotkeys used by Flip Extender?
A: You can select hotkey options on Flip Extender's main screen in true flip open mode.
Q: Can Flip Extender automatically return to normal flip closed mode if I don't use the phone for a while?
A: Yes, you can specify an idle timeout for closing the virtual flip on Flip Extender's main screen in true flip open mode.
The timeout is one minute by default.
Q: Why are the flip keys dark in VF open mode?
A: Because the operating system thinks the flip is truly open.
There is no known method of lighting up the key backlights from a program.
Text input
Q: Only numerics can be typed into text fields?
A: No, you can enter alphabetic letters and special characters as well.
Press the Shift (Asterisk) key to switch between input modes, including numeric, lowercase and uppercase.
Q: Why does text input miss some of my keypresses?
A: Apparently input of lowercase letters by Flip Extender is somewhat impaired on programs that use the Java Virtual Machine.
There is no known remedy for the problem so far.
Q: Why does handwriting recognition not work?
A: Handwriting recognition is not supported in VF open mode.
Just open the physical flip if you need to use an input method other than multitap,
like handwriting, the virtual or the QWERTY keyboard.
Conflicts
Q: Can I run any application in VF open mode?
A: The vast majority of flip-open-only programs can be used perfectly in VF open mode.
Exceptions can be programs that do some kind of screen manipulation which is incompatible with screen virtualization by Flip Extender.
Known examples are Communicorder (view finder position is erratic when scrolled down) and
Pictures (full screen display faulty).
Q: What shall I do when screen display appears faulty?
A: If the foreground application writes to the screen in a way that causes a conflict with Flip Extender,
in most cases opening the true flip eliminates the problem.
If the phone freezes completely, press and hold down the power key for 10 seconds to switch off the handset, then start it again.
Q: What to do if the powersaver comes up and the phone freezes?
A: The built-in blank powersaver is incompatible with screen virtualization by Flip Extender,
and causes a partial lock-up of the phone when it comes up.
If this occurs, open the true flip and wait until the powersaver blanks the screen again,
after which the phone works normally.
To avoid the problem completely, set Flip Extender's idle timeout to a smaller value than that of the powersaver.
Q: Why the VF hotkey or the Scroll key do not work?
A: You probably started an application after Flip Extender that captures the same keypress.
Change the hotkey usage of either application to avoid the conflict.
Flip Extender's hotkeys can be selected on its main screen in true flip open mode.
