Purpose
FrontView allows customizing the appearance and behavior of the flip closed standby view on UIQ smartphones.

Compatibility
FrontView can be executed on smartphones running on Symbian 7.0 with UIQ 2.0 or higher. Full functionality of the program requires a physical or virtual flip keypad. Fully compatible handsets include the SonyEricsson P910, P900 and P800 phones.

Installation
Decompress the downloaded distribution package. Refer to the readme.txt file for any instruction specific to the version downloaded. The FrontView installation file, FrontViewXXX.sis, can be installed from the PC or the phone by the usual manners (refer to your phone's User Guide for details).

Flip closed mode
Main display elements of FrontView include the
- Logo (alternating display of Operator, To do or Note),
- Position (your current location),
- Time/Date, and the
- Icon indicators (providing system information).
You can configure the appearance of display and various functions using the Edit/Preferences menu item.

Flip closed keys
[ # ] - Switch on key lock and clock screensaver. Requires the BigBen plug-in, available as separate download
[ * ] - Display information on icon indicators.
[ OK ] - Launch shortcut or name the current area.
[ C ] - Display Logo details.
[ Back ] - Return to standard standby view.
[ Options ] - Invoke the menu.
[ Number ] - Dial a phone number.
Jogdial away - Switch Logo content.
Jogdial up/down - List and execute shortcuts.
Long keypresses work as in the normal standby view (voice dial, voice mail, silent mode, contacts).

Menu
By pressing the [ Options ] key the menu is invoked. Selectable menu items include Lock, Indicators, Area, Logo details (Status, To do or Note), Special, Cleanup, Help and Applications. The Special submenu brings up a selection of phone functions, i. e. Call list, Show IMEI, Service menus and Language reset.
Note that the Service menus allow you to format the internal disk which results in the loss of all customization and user data.

Logo
The uppermost line in flip closed mode is the Logo. By pressing the jog dial away you can choose between displaying Operator, To do, or Note (see below). Press the [ C ] key for Logo details.

The GSM network service provider's name is shown. The Logo details key brings up Phone status information.

Logo - To do
The upcoming Calendar, Tasks or Alarm item is shown. A bell icon is displayed when the current event has an associated alarm. The Logo details key opens the Today dialog listing all events for the current day, and the next alarm if it falls to a later date. Pressing the [ OK ] key brings up the Calendar or Tasks application displaying the selected event.

Logo - Note
Arbitrary text is displayed that you can set as your own personal logo. The Logo details key allows you to enter the text that can also be changed using the Edit/Note menu item in flip open mode.

Position
Your current position is shown in the second line of the flip closed display. FrontView automatically collects the necessary data and prompts you when you can assign a name for the current area. Press the [ OK ] key to give the current area a name (you can also access the function from the menu in both flip closed and open mode). FrontView will display the name you supply whenever the same area is recognized.

Icon indicators
These are found at the bottom of screen in flip closed mode. Press the [*] key to bring up the Indicator information dialog, showing current values of the indicators in text form. Indicators include the following items (from left to right):
- Programs: Number of background applications that can be closed by Cleanup.
- RAM: Amount of free operative memory.
- Drive C: Amount of free space on the phone memory.
- Drive D: Amount of free space on the memory card.
- Battery: Estimated battery duration.
- Signal: Network signal strength (history).
- Motion/Recognition: Probability of motion (red line) and area recognition (green line).

Dialing
Pressing a numeric key in flip closed mode brings up the Dial dialog. Continue entering the phone number then press the [ OK ] key to start dialing.
Your own number can be shown or hidden according to the setting in Preferences / Function / Number sending. When number sending is left "Unchanged", you can also enter a one-digit speed dial code.
Call report (duration) is shown at the end of each call and also in the Phone status dialog.

Application shortcuts
Turn the jog dial for a list of applications and other shortcuts that you can execute. Select an item and press the [ OK ] key, or press the displayed hot key for fast execution.

Shortcut configuration
Shortcuts can be modified using the Edit/Shortcuts menu item in flip open mode. Choose the position to change, press one of the shortcut addition buttons, and select any displayed item as a new shortcut.
The App. button lets you choose from the available applications that can work in flip closed mode. The Func. button provides access to special functions like Call list, Bluetooth, Infrared, and Email check. Using the Call and SMS buttons you can specify a contact to communicate with (select a name and a phone number item).
Shortcut captions can be changed using the Rename button. Press the Delete button to undefine a shortcut.

Cleanup
FrontView can release system resources by closing background applications and compacting memory. The Cleanup function can be accessed from the menu in both flip closed and open mode.
In flip open mode you can configure the behavior of the Cleanup process. Unmark those programs that you do not want to stop running. Excluded programs are preserved, but you can override exclusion by checking "Close unmarked items". Cleanup will be executed automatically if you check "Cleanup when closing the flip".

A summary of system information is shown in the main display area. The menu and toolbar provide access to the following functions:
- FrontView menu: bring up phone Status information, Cleanup system resources, display the About box, and Exit the program.
- Edit menu: assign Area names, define Note and application Shortcuts for flip closed mode, set various Preferences, and display Help about using the program.
- Toolbar buttons include Lock (requires the BigBen plug-in), furthermore Cleanup and Preferences.

Preferences - Display
Use the provided settings to customize the appearance of your phone's standby view.
- Indicator: Select the display item whose appearance you want to change.
- Appearance: Choose from the available display formats for the Indicator selected above.
- Text color: Choose a text color (only available when "Fixed color" is selected in Appearance).
- Image: Select the background picture for the flip closed standby view.
- Time/Date: Select the preferred combination of various time/date components.

Preferences - Behavior
Adjust settings that fine tune the behavior of FrontView.
- Execute shortcut on OK key: Check the option to use the [ OK ] key to execute the first shortcut, rather than to invoke the Area dialog.
- Show undated tasks in Today: Check the option to display tasks without a due date in the Today dialog.
- Reactivate by internet key: Check the option to use the internet button to re-invoke FrontView when it is in suspended state.
- Appear on opening the flip: Check the option if you want FrontView to come to the foreground when opening the flip.
- Autostart: Check the option to launch FrontView automatically whenever you start up your handset.

Set extra functions provided by FrontView.
- Number sending: Set if you want to always show or hide your own phone number when dialing from within FrontView.
- New area signal: Select the type of alert to be issued when an unnamed area is recognized.
- Call reporting: Select the type of information shown at the end of each call.
- Screensaver and Lock: Press the button to set options for the BigBen plug-in, available as a separate download. The button is disabled if BigBen is not installed.
